According to census data in 2017, the average commute times in the U.S. rose by 26.6 to 26.9 minutes. In Seattle, the average commuter spends about 30 minutes commuting no matter how they travel. (Halverson, 2018)

Carpooling and public transportation increases commute times by almost 20 minutes. While carpooling increases commute times from a small fraction of about two to four minutes longer. The average individual utilizing public transportation spends an average of 48.7 minutes commuting to work, and roughly 35 percent of people spend more than an hour utilizing community transit to go to work. (Halverson, 2018)

Washington ranked ninth place in the last census for worst commute times by state. The Puget Sound area accounting for most of the congestion found within this survey.

Putting our commute time into context, we spend roughly a full work week in a two month time frame commuting to and from work. That is being generous with the time constraints because those who commute by transit can easily spend a full work week commuting to and from work in a month time frame.

We spend so much time commuting to and from work, we really need to maximize the time we have available. Try to utilize things to make life simple such as a crock pot dinner, or ordering groceries from a place that allows online shopping. Maximize the free time you have because our time is limited already.
